Term: June 21, 1957-Apr. 22, 1963. Was in Parliament for a total of 39 years, 4 months and 19 days. First elected to the House of Commons in 1940. 

Age on becoming PM: 61. First PM with active service in WW I. First Saskatchewan resident to become PM. Diefenbaker Lake, a man-made reservoir, south of Saskatoon, is named after him. 

Birth: Sept. 18, 1895 Ontario

Death: at age 83, Aug. 16, 1979, of heart failure; buried on the grounds of the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Sask.
